Better Health 4 Kids

"The Need"

In Davidson county alone there are approximately 139,804 children under the age of 18. Of those children 9,786 were uninsured for the whole year (U.S. Census 2011), 31,735 were underinsured, and 15,378 uninsured for part of the year (Health Resource Services Administration 2010). That is a total of 59,899 or 40% of children in Davidson county who do not have access to health care that meets their needs.

Better Health 4 Kids is developing strategies and programs to address the health needs of these children. Join us to create healthier futures for our children.

CHILDREN'S HEALTH FUND

Better Health 4 Kids meets the requirements of Tennessee Code Ann 56-60-104(b)(1)(A) to provide temporary financial assistance for families with uninsured or underinsured children to access necessary health care services in a Pediatrician's office. This program will launch in early 2013 on a pilot basis and will provide children a medical home, reduce the costs of care through care coordination, assist families in accessing future health care coverage for their children and keep members of our community healthy.

 COMMUNITY EDUCATION

The community education programs use evidence based education strategies to provide families with children in the communities in which we all live and work with information on health and wellness, community resources, opportunities to meet and speak with local Pediatricians and come together as a community for healthier lifestyles.

HEALTH PREVENTION PROGRAM

Health prevention programs are based on evidence based prevention strategies delivered in the Pediatrician office and focus on a variety of health indicators for children. These indicators may include: obesity, asthma, breastfeeding, immunizations, pregnancy prevention, tobacco cessation, healthy eating and physical exercise and many more. The Foundation follows Healthy People 2020 indicators as well as those of the State of Tennessee Department of Health and Human Services focus areas for health prevention and promotion.

CP SCHOLARS

The Scholars program provides children ages 5 to 13 an opportunity to attend a free two week summer day session at the YMCA Camp Widjiwagan. These scholars are children who are chosen based on merit and scholastic achievement. Children attending this camp would not have the opportunity without this program to learn and grow in this kind of setting. This is a once in a lifetime experience for children.
